"Our business customers will love bringing the convenience and security of Apple Pay to their customers. We're thrilled to enable our infrastructure to support Apple Pay, along with the issuing banks and retailers to bring consumers an easy, safe and secure way to pay."

Payments company Elavon announced it will offer its customers access to Apple Pay starting today in the UK. Elavon was one of the first payment processing companies to offer Apple Pay to businesses in the US and it will be taking a similar lead in the UK.

Andrew Key, President of Europe for Elavon said: “Our business customers will love bringing the convenience and security of Apple Pay to their customers. We're thrilled to enable our infrastructure to support Apple Pay, along with the issuing banks and retailers to bring consumers an easy, safe and secure way to pay.”

Elavon has been supporting its UK customer base to ensure that it was ready to offer Apple Pay as soon as it launched. James Williams, Head of Finance for the Tortilla restaurant group said: “We’re so excited that Apple Pay is coming to the UK, and our partnership with Elavon means that we can offer this innovative digital payment opportunity to our customers right from day one. Tortilla customers are always looking for exceptional service and we believe that accepting Apple Pay will be a great addition to the experience we provide”

Apple Pay stores cardholder information in a Secure Element on the Apple device, and works with current Elavon contactless POS terminals. To pay, consumers hold their device near the contactless reader, exactly as they would a contactless card today. The payment information is then passed to the POS system only once the consumer authenticates the transaction with their finger on Touch ID as verification for the purchase.

Security and privacy is at the core of Apple Pay, and when you add a credit or debit card to Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on your device. Each transaction is authorised with a one-time unique dynamic security code.

Over 250,000 locations will accept Apple Pay in the UK, with support from many of the UK’s most established issuing banks and all of the major credit and debit card networks. Consumers can use Apple Pay anywhere they can pay with contactless, including Boots UK, BP, Costa Coffee, LIDL, Marks & Spencer, McDonald’s UK and Waitrose, as well as many smaller retail chains and stores.

Apple Pay can also enable payment within apps, making checkout simple and taking away the need to type in card details and delivery information. Apps that will offer Apple Pay in the UK include Addison Lee, Airbnb, Argos, Booking.com, British Airways, Domino’s, Hailo, Just Eat and thetrainline.com.

In stores, Apple Pay gives consumers an easy, secure way to pay with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch and within apps, using iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3.
